Franco Clerc

A Malagasy filmmaker who made his debut feature, Mandrakizay Doria (2026), entirely self-financed on a budget of approximately €20,000. He handled direction, cinematography, editing, colour grading, and visual effects himself — a production process that spanned fourteen months. The film, adapted from a successful stage play and spanning from 1869 to the present, was released in Cinépax theaters across Madagascar on 13 February 2026. It represents a new generation of Malagasy filmmakers determined to produce ambitious work entirely on local terms.
