Mandrakizay Doria

In 1869, a young peasant named Railovy falls in love with Lala, an aristocrat beyond his reach. Through a bargain with an ancestral deity, he gains magical powers — and condemns both of them to immortality, linking their fates across more than a century. By 1965, in the years following Madagascar's independence, Railovy travels as a magician and Lala appears again in his audience. Adapted from a successful stage play, this debut feature by Franco Clerc — who also shot, edited, and graded the film himself on a budget of approximately €20,000 — draws on Malagasy ancestral belief and the country's historical ruptures to tell a love story that spans eras. Released in Cinépax theaters across Madagascar on 13 February 2026.
