Born in 1983 in Toulouse to a French father and a Malagasy mother, Maéva Ranaïvojaona is a filmmaker, author, and producer who lives and works between France and Vienna. Her feature debut, Zaho Zay (2020), co-directed with Georg Tiller and scripted by Jean-Luc Raharimanana, is a hybrid essay-documentary set in a Malagasy prison — weaving documentary footage of prison life, fantastical sequences, and lyric imagery into a film about abandonment, justice, and the legacies of violence. It broadcast on Arte in 2023.
