Hamy Ratovo

Known professionally as Hamy Ratovo, Haminiaina Ratovoarivony was born in 1977 in Madagascar. He studied sociology before moving to France to study cinema. He lives between Madagascar and Chicago, and is part of the generation of filmmakers working to revive Malagasy cinema. His first feature, Malagasy Mankany (2012), is a road-movie dramedy about three friends travelling from Antananarivo to the countryside that won audience awards at the Hollywood Black Film Festival, Vues d'Afrique, and other international African film festivals, and was selected for FESPACO.
